Coordinating beneficiaryCREA is a national research organization with scientific expertise in the fields of agriculture, agro-industry, fisheries, and forestry. He has legal status under public law and it works under the supervision of the MIPAAF, the Italian Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies.
CREA has also scientific, statutory, organizational, administrative, and financial autonomy.
The Research Centre for Forestry and Wood is one of the twelve research centres of CREA. The aims of the research centre are the optimization of multi-functionality, health, and vitality of the forest through sustainable forest management, biodiversity protection and conservation, forest ecology, and silvicultural techniques for the improvement of wood and non-wood production. It studies the structure and functionality of the forest ecosystem, adaptation and forest mitigation capacity to global changes. Genetic variability, the improvement of basic materials, and the maintenance of forest species collections are also of concern of the Centre. The Research Centre deals also with the recovery of marginal or degraded areas, reforestation techniques, and the development criteria and indicators for sustainable forest management.
